Day139

San Diego Zoo
Sep 22, 2013, 8:23 PM

Well let me first say we had a great time today, however, ya knew a "however" was coming, the San Diego Zoo is very impressed with it's own press. It is a good zoo, but hardly the "BEST" zoo. Their entry fee was twice the most expensive zoo we've been to so far, $44/person. I asked if they had a reciprocal agreement with other zoos and I was told, "No, we are a world famous zoo, we don't do that." Well maybe you should consider doing that because MOST zoos that are large enough do and it is only right. "World Famous", PLEASE!!!!! Now I do have to give credit where credit is due, Curtis got in free because he is active military. Kudos for that, but aside from that they left a very bad taste in my mouth over this. There was no fee to park, and at that price there shouldn't be a fee to park, there was a double decker open bus you could ride, no additional fee, and there was a sky-ride, no additional fee, but at that price there shouldn't have been additional fees. I mean really! There was also no discount if you weren't interested in any of those things, and we weren't. This place is WAY over priced and the San Diego Safari Park was even worse. Today though was more about who not where. We were able to spend the day at the zoo with Curtis and Courtney, so that was perfect.

We did have a great time and after the zoo. We got pizza and returned to the RV. The pizza was great, the company better, we had a wonderful day! Tomorrow we all have plans to go to the USS Midway. I'm so looking forward to that. Good night all!!

Day 138

Fixit Day
Sep 21, 2013, 8:00 PM

Well thank goodness things are back to normal, but something is not right with the front AC unit, cause it shouldn't have squealed to begin with. So I guess Monday we will make calls and hopefully get parts, but at least for now things are good. We are relaxing and just doing nothing. That's kind of nice for a change. Tomorrow we have to decide what we want to do. San Diego Zoo or Safari Park are on the table but I'm shocked at how expensive they are. If we go they better be GOOD that's all I've got to say.

So I'll be checking in tomorrow and I'll give you plenty of updates. Good night all.

Day 137

Southern California

Sep 20, 2013, 10:22 PM

We had a very unexceptional drive to Southern California but it seemed like as soon as we crossed the border into California the trash along the side of the highway became ankle deep. It's horrible!! Shame on you, you who can't wait till you get to a trash can before you toss your trash, SHAME ON YOU!!!!! Then when we got around the Los Angeles/Riverside area we could see the haze of smog. It almost completely obliterated the mountains from sight. You can't breathe the air here, you have to cut it out with a knife and chew it! That is where the traffic became crazy too, but we made it here and the campground is huge and nice.

We met Curtis and Courtney for dinner. Courtney is just wonderful, we loved her instantly. We had a nice dinner at Olive Garden and then made plans to meet them on Sunday. Minutes before we walked out the door our front A/C unit started to squeal. Steve is going to have to climb up there tomorrow and see what's up. We can't go back to Vegas with only one air conditioner. Thank God the temperatures here are much cooler, only in the 70's. So tomorrow will be a fixit day and hopefully Sunday we will be enjoying the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park with Curtis and Courtney!

Day 136

Travel Day
Sep 19, 2013, 7:46 PM

We left Utah behind. Gosh it was such a wonderful and exciting stay in Utah. We saw some beautiful sites and had some real adventures. From roads washing out to encounters with rattlesnakes. It was great!

Of course the travel day never let's us down for excitement or giggles. This time when we stopped at a Pilot gas station to fill up, we saw a truck driver boxing with his tractor. I kid you not, I couldn't make this stuff up. We are pulling out and I look over at the parked trucks and there is a guy, boxing gloves on and all, and he is going at it with his truck. What kind of crazy nut job is this, and this whacko is hauling tons of truck down the road. It is scary if you think about it, so I try not to.

We arrived at the campground and it is beautiful and it's like a luxury resort, but then sticker shock, it was $51 a night and then you had to pay for wifi, $6/a day. Ah, no way, I'm not thrilled. This is the place we were supposed to stay when we come back to Vegas on the 30th for six nights, there is no way in hell!!!!! First of all, I didn't like the woman shilling tickets in the lobby as I was trying to leave. It is very trashy and so was she, nasty old woman with black nail polished long nails, YUCK!!!!! So we found a better place. This place has a great lobby and slot machines and a restaurant, beautiful pool, but the rest of it is just like any number of places we've stayed. Not much more than a parking lot. That is really all we need too, especially in Vegas Baby. So we are going to be spending about 1/3 what this place wanted. Crazy!!!, and we will be closer to Kim and Robert, my dad and stepmother. PERFECT!!!!

Tomorrow we head to San Diego. I'm so excited!!!!! Curtis, get ready baby, here we come. . .

Oh P.S. when I called to cancel our stay at this place for the 30th, they actually had the audacity to ask why.

Day 135

Sundae On A Wednesday
Sep 18, 2013, 6:52 PM

I have a confession to make. . . We were lazy today, oh the shame. :-( It was just so tempting to sleep in and then do NOTHING from there. So we had breakfast late we didn't bother with lunch, but we did get peckish about 4:30 PM, so we went out to get ice cream. AREN'T WE BAD!!!!!!!! Now we aren't really hungry for dinner. It's a topsy turvy world, I tell you.

We are going to start out for San Diego tomorrow, with a layover in Vegas for one night. We are really looking forward to getting to San Diego. Spanky is complaining that we haven't been to a zoo in a while. We are going to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Safari Park. We will get to spend some time with Curtis and Courtney. I'm excited about that!!! We have been in the south western Utah area long enough to be getting comfortable with getting around, so it's time to move on. That seems to be our MO, when we get to know an area, we want to move on. After San Diego it shakes out like this, Las Vegas for a week, the Flagstaff, Arizona then Albuquerque, New Mexico. Past that we haven't thought. This has been such an amazing trip and I am LOVING every minute. I have seen things I never thought I'd see and sharing all these experiences with my wonderful husband, what more could I ask for!!

So goodnight everyone, continue to pray for Kathy, she isn't out of the woods just yet, but she is improving. The doctors say that she may not be fully awake for several days based on how long the surgery was. We will continue to pray for her.

Day 134

Yesterday's Outing

Sep 17, 2013, 7:11 PM

First I want to say thank you all so much for your concern and your prayers. As of 7:00 PM Mountain Time we have heard that Kathy is in recovery. It was a very long day, but we are hopeful. Thank you again for all of your support.

Route 89, Scenic Byway

Yesterday we drove the Route 89, Scenic Byway going through the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. We had a wonderful day, no snakes either. We saw amazing rock formations, canyons, and vistas. We hiked up to see a cave and saw a dragon made out of rocks and an Indian silhouette. We had lunch in one of the three places we past in about 130 miles of road. Then we traveled on and saw great sights. We stopped almost everywhere we could find to get photos and just take a look. We even stopped on our way home at a spot where there were about ten cars parked. We thought we might find a great sight or possibly an animal encounter, but there was nothing to see. We couldn't even tell where all those people were. There was a fence and we didn't see a gate, just a grassy field on the other side of the fence, but nothing else. Nothing! Crazy! As we were leaving we giggled cause someone else was pulling in, only to find nothing there.

Today we decided to take a day off and stay close to the phone waiting for a call about Kathy. We haven't made our plans for tomorrow yet. Good night and thank you all again for your concern, prayers, and support. It goes a long way to know that people are thinking about you. Good night all.
