Day 130

New Tires And Pipe Springs Monument

Sep 13, 2013, 5:31 PM

Yesterday Steve looked at the tires on the car and announced, "Before we go anywhere else we need new tires." So this morning we got up and called Walmart. We drove over to Hurricane, went to Walmart and got a good deal on tires for the car. God forbid, if we have any trouble with the tires while we are on the road we are never too far from a Walmart. So we are set now. While we were waiting we made our reservations for Southern California, that was good since we head there when we leave Utah.

On our way back we stopped at the Pipe Springs Monument. This was so fascinating. It seems back in the 1800's there was a fresh water spring in this area that a Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians built there homes around, when the Mormons came to the area they decided they like the spring too, so they built a fort over the spring. Once again the Indians were shafted, not only by the US Government, but by the Mormon Church followers. We watched a movie and toured the fort. At the fort there was a orchard and garden we were able to walk around and we got to pick some Granny Smith apples. It was another good day.

Tomorrow's plans aren't set. We are going to look into going to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and if that doesn't pan out we may go explore or we may go to the Pink Coral Sand Dunes. We will just have to see. Good night everyone. Have a good tomorrow.
