Day 102

Olympic National Park

Aug 16, 2013, 12:16 PM

So yesterday was an iconic Pacific Northwest day, today was a classic Chamber of Commerce day. It is beautiful in every aspect. The sun is shining, it isn't too hot, there has been a breeze, it's just perfect. A great day to go to Olympic National Park, and what a beautiful park it is. The smell of Christmas trees just surrounds you, we've seen so many deer mamas and babies, and today I can fully appreciate why the Cascades are called the American Alps. When we got to the Hurricane Visitor's Center, everywhere you look there are glaciers and snow covered peaks, and so many peaks. It is incredible. I am so glad we did this park it was much more stunning than the Cascades National Park even though this is part of the Cascades mountain range.

We had a pretty good drive to get here. It was almost all along a pretty lake and very little traffic. We saw a post office so I could send a package or two but don't you know they were closed when we got there. We have tried to send these packages out several times and each time the post office we came to was closed, either for lunch, or the stupid place closes every day at noon (for the day), or we were passing it on a Sunday. I has been a comedy of errors trying to get to the post office. So now we go down the road just a little bit and damn if there isn't another post office. So we finally get the stuff mailed out, then we go down the road and I swear we must have seen another three post offices. My gosh, there aren't that many people in the entire area for so many freaking post offices. And there is another thing that is just so odd, since we have been out west we have seen so many espresso booths. They are kind of like a Fotomat, just a little booth out at the end of a parking lot or on the side of the road, but they are for espresso. There are so many of these places, heck there can be more than one in a block. There are even places that have health food and espresso. I don't know how espresso fits in with "health food" but I guess it does. These people are serious about their coffee. I was sort of expecting it when we got to Seattle, with Starbucks and all, but this has been going on since I think Michigan. It must be a phenomenon that I just don't get not being a coffee drinker. The wild and wonderful things we are encountering on this trip will just be memories we will have for a life time. Good night all, enjoy the photos from today, I'll talk to you again tomorrow.
