Day 3

Savannah
May 9, 2013, 2:54 PM

Our plan for today was to go into Savannah again. We wanted to go to Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House for lunch. Oh, if you haven't been, you are missing something special. There is always a wait to get in (it averages 30-40 minutes), she is only open for lunch, and only Monday to Friday. The food is served home style, big bowls full of food await you at the table. Her fried chicken should be outlawed, anything that good has got to be illegal. Anyway, before we started I was fighting with the wifi trying to get just one photo to e-mail and we decided we weren't going to be able to make it on campground wifi alone. So off to the Verizon store we went to get a wifi-in-a-box. Now lets hope we don't go over the 5GB each month.

We made an appointment with this really nice guy that Steve talked to over the phone, we get to the store and we find out we are at the wrong location. Sorry Derrick, we were going to give you our sale but buddy on vacation time is leisure and we don't want to waste any of that. So the long and the short of it is, we're good and someone else got the sale. I did ask them about getting my phone fixed, the hinge area was cracking and I'm not due for an upgrade till January. Yikes!!!!!!!! They gave us information about a place that fixes phones, so we go check it out. This place was in a creepy area but they were awfully nice. $20 and an hour and a half, and we are back in business. I told the guy that was helping us if anybody calls they ought to screw with them, tell then he found the phone at a strip club, or in a dumpster or something but he said they typically take the battery out so there weren't any calls anyway. Darn! Just think of the rumors that would go around if they played along.

While the phone was being fixed up, we had our lunch. Oh I died and went to heaven!!!!!!! Fried chicken, BBQ, beef stew, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potato casserole, squash casserole, beets, baked macaroni and cheese, macaroni salad, okra and tomatoes, dirty rice, white rice, lima beans, greens, turnips, navy beans, blackened peas, cabbage, biscuits, and banana pudding for desert, as if a desert was really needed after all that. It's loud, it's a squeeze, and they don't take plastic, but oh my gosh it's good.

When we went back to get the phone it was fixed up just right. One less thing that will worry me. Now we are on our way to Tybee Island. We've only been there once before and we thought what the heck.

Tybee Island
May 9, 2013, 4:54 PM

Well Tybee Island did not disappoint. It's a pretty little sea side town. Nice beach, but it is the Atlantic. I've gotten spoiled living in Florida. The gulf is so pretty, it's emerald colored water that is warm and calm is just so inviting. By comparison the Atlantic is dark and dirty and a much rougher surf. Still it's fun to walk the beach. We happened to be there on a school day. There must have been about 150 kids in blue T-shirts from some school, I didn't get the name, but they were huddled in large groups. Steve and I walked over to the jetty and a group of kids came running over with a teacher and she was pulling shells out of the tidal pools caught in the rocks and explaining different things to the kids. They really did look engrossed in her teaching. Maybe some future marine biologists were in the bunch.

After walking around, oh and I might add, my husband was a complete poop!!! He wouldn't help me drag a piece of drift wood down the beach so that I could get a much better shot of the light house. I mean REALLY!!!! Sometimes you have to suffer for your art, damn him, he refused to suffer! Oh well, I got another great photo of him giving me the finger. When I want to get back at him I take his picture. He hates that so he give me the finger. By the time this trip is done I will have a photo of Steve giving me the finger in almost every one of our 50 states.

The GPS is barking out orders again. We are back in Savannah and in just a few minutes we'll be back at the campground. Tomorrow morning we are off for Atlanta.

Tervis Store
May 9, 2013, 5:21 PM

Well I wanted to go back to the Tervis store when we were in Savannah, but we forgot. We got so caught up in getting the phone repaired and getting the wifi thingamabob that I forgot all about it till we were on the road to Tybee Island. I was disappointed cause the Tervis store had lots of cool cups and lids and colors and designs I hadn't seen anywhere else. I thought Bed Bath and Beyond had the best selection, oh I was wrong. Well on our way back from Tybee Island we were going right through downtown Savannah and my darling wonderful loving all round great guy husband announces that I need to jump out get what I want while he circles so we don't have to park again. What a doll he is (and no I'm not being facetious).  So I jump out while he pulls to the curb in a no parking spot, we weren't parking only stopping momentarily, and I ran in. I didn't see what I was looking for right away so I went to the girl and guy at the register and I told them, "Quick, quick, I need your help. My husband doesn't want to pay to park, he's out side at the curb, this is what I need. . ." They were good!! In like two minutes they had what I wanted in a bag the bag in my hand and I was back outside.
