Day 67

Leaving Michigan

Jul 12, 2013, 12:22 PM

We are on our way and leaving Michigan today. It seems like we have been here a very long time but there is so much to see and do. We arrived in Michigan on June 22nd. We really did love Michigan. As we are trying to pull out this morning we had minor issues, the jacks are still plaguing us, but more troubling than that the phone started ringing. Steve got two or three phone calls about Medicare stuff and it seemed like it took forever. My gosh and it is breezy again today. I swear Michigan has got to be Indian for the place where the wind never stops blowing. So now I can get down to business and tell you all about the Pictured Rocks Sunset Cruise. Saying it was beautiful is so parochial. Beautiful can't begin to convey, it's amazing, it's grand, it's awe inspiring. It is hard to imagine something so fluid, so malleable, so pliable, having no real shape of it's own, can carve away at rock. The water and wind have eroded the rock in such wonderful ways. The shapes it has carved, the holes it has left behind, you feel like this should be part of the Grand Canyon instead of in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Then the strength of purpose, the resolve, the shear will to survive in nature, is so humbling. The trees will find a way to grow out of just rock, they will hold on even while the ground beneath them is slipping down a shear cliff or has tumbled into the water and nothing is left at all, yet they hold on where then can and they thrive. It really makes you reconsider complaining about hardship.

The cruise started at 7:30 PM, we got there about 45 minutes early. We were already late. They told us seating would begin 15 minutes prior to the cruise time and it was first come first served. The line was already so long, and they ere taking two boats out. I guess with the cancellations from the day before they were packed. But it was a perfect evening for a sunset cruise. The water was calm as glass and the sky was clear, the sunset promised to be gorgeous and it kept it's promise. I felt bad for Steve, he's always so willing to give me the window seat so I can take pictures and since we weren't there early enough we didn't get to sit up top. I was secretly glad cause it would have gotten really cool up there, but I'm sure Steve would have had a better view. The man really is a saint!

The cruise was 2 1/2 hours of vistas like I would never have imagined and to see the late evening sun turn the water to a dark amber and the rocks glowing with their wild colors was breath taking. I was in my glory and I got over 900 pictures that I will make everyone see when we get home. Boy, that will tell me who our real friends are.

Changing Time Zones

Jul 12, 2013, 2:02 PM/Jul 12, 2013, 1:02 PM

We have just crossed over into the Central Time Zone. It has been a very nice drive so far. Very wooded, no traffic at all, hardly any lights or stops or anything. I hope this lasts.

We're Here

Jul 12, 2013, 4:18 PM

All is good at the campground where we are staying. It's a nice little place in Minocqua, Wisconsin, and you just aren't going to believe this! A few miles from the campground we saw a zoo. We had no idea it was here. We have another zoo to visit! Tomorrow I'll let you know how it is.  Are you people lucky or what?!
