Going To See Star Trek
Jun 10, 2013, 9:52 PM
Rain, rain go away, well actually it's not such a bad thing. It gives us an excuse to go to the movies to see Star Trek, Into Darkness. Well at least that was the plan. Kim and I went to get discount tickets from the township. That's a cool concept. The movie would have cost us $10 to get in but the township tickets only cost $8. We got back, got lunch and then we were off, in the rain, to go to the movies. There were a lot more people with the same idea than I would have thought for a Monday, but what the heck. We go right through the line. We ran into Kim's neighbor, Marie. I would have never thought that. So getting back to the details, Robert and Alex stopped at the concession stand, everyone is very familiar with Steve's feelings about the concession stand, so we didn't even bother. Steve and I went to find the perfect seat. Someone was sitting in it!!! Damn it, we should have left earlier. Anyway, the screen is still blank at this time. Then the Regal Cinemas asks you to silence your cell phones comes up, and stays up for what seemed like forever. Then that goes blank and you can see on the the very bottom of the screen, a strip with a little clock in the lower right corner. Just like you would see on your windows home page. The movie was supposed to start at 1PM, the clock showed 1:04PM. And we watch this blank screen with the clock for another few minutes. A man in a row behind us gets up to see what's going on. Robert and Alex are still not back so no harm no foul as far as I'm concerned. Now it's 1:10PM. The guy comes back and I can hear him telling someone something about the problem the theater was having and of course I figured it would be an operator error and things would be back on in just a minute.
Alex and Robert show up with candy, soda, and popcorn. Perfect, they haven't missed anything but a bunch of blank screen. Now it's 1:14PM. At this point Steve has had enough, he's going to go see what is going on. Just as Steve comes back the screen starts to come alive. He found out the entire half of the theater we were in was out and they were in the process of getting things back on. Cool! That's OK, we are retired people, we've got nowhere to go and all day to get there.
Well OK this is not good, we are watching the movie but there is no sound. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!!!!! IS EVERYONE INCOMPETENT? So we wait a few more minutes, but now it's about 1:30PM. I am SURE they know there is no sound and they are actively trying to fix it, right? They couldn't be that stupid could they? Oh but I don't give people enough credit, there are those in life that excel at stupidity, and I think it my life's ambition to encounter each and every one of them.
Steve gets up one more time. Now the house lights are brought up to full. Steve walks back in, the manager is no more than a second or two behind him. They had no idea the sound wasn't working. So at this point the manager, who can't be more than 25, says they are having difficulty, we are more than welcome to get our money back, ya think?, or we can wait and see if they can fix the problem, or we can go to another theater and see a different movie or we can get a comp ticket. Now I'm a bit pissy at this point, so I said to the manager, "I think at this point we have been more than patient with this problem and whether we stay and wait, or go to another movie I think we all deserve a comp ticket." He was really quick to agree with me, it might have been the look of blood lusting in my eyes that got him to agree so quickly or it just might have been the fact that he was a generous man, I don't know. We got our comp ticket and we went to see, "Now You See Me". Now most likely we wouldn't have gone to see this movie, we may have even missed it when it came out on DVD, but I'll tell you what, we found a jewel of a movie. Lots of twists and turns and a good cast, and we are going back tomorrow to see Star Trek or there will be a movie theater manager that is a very sorry man when I leave. That's all I'm saying!!!!!
When we got home we had a great dinner, and after dinner we played Mexican Train Dominos till we all got a little silly. Then Steve and I came back to the RV and I was working on a few more of the photos of Catherine's family, by the way Catherine sent me the nicest e-mail about how much she enjoyed the photo shoot and how much she is loving the photos, but then I got an e-mail from Alex that made me laugh so hard I was crying. So now I'm waiting for more pictures to upload to my web site then I'm going to bed. It is raining again so it will be a great night for sleeping. Good night all!!
